Job Overview

Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Registered Nurse

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to become part of our dynamic Short Stay Unit. This role is pivotal in providing exceptional care to our surgical short stay patients.

Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse in the Short Stay Unit include:

Conducting comprehensive assessments, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for assigned surgical patients. Engaging in discharge planning, advocating for clients, and educating patients and their families on health issues and wellness. Enhancing the quality of life from the perspective of patients and their families. Documenting care provided and addressing incidents in line with established protocols. Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Continuously advancing personal clinical skills and knowledge. Participating in hospital committees and approved research initiatives as required.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Skills & Competencies

Proven nursing practice abilities related to the designated patient group. Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability to unexpected situations, and effective prioritization. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. Proficient in counseling and educating patients and their families. Demonstrated leadership skills through initiative and independence. Competent in clinical techniques and the use of relevant medical equipment. Skilled in CPR techniques. Ability to operate related medical equipment and utilize computerized patient care systems effectively. Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.

Additional Information

Work hours, including days off and work area, may vary based on operational needs and in accordance with the Collective Agreement and applicable regulations.
