Role Overview

As a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing individualized care plans by assessing patient and family needs and collaborating with the healthcare team.
  • Delivering direct nursing care in alignment with the standards set by the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC), ensuring a family-centered approach.
  • Keeping accurate and comprehensive patient records, documenting all relevant health information and nursing interventions.
  • Mentoring and guiding new team members and learners, fostering a culture of continuous education and professional development.
  • Actively participating in team meetings, committees, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Contributing to policy development and operational practices that prioritize patient and family needs while optimizing resource use.
  • Ensuring a safe environment for patients, families, and staff by adhering to established safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Engaging in nursing research and quality improvement projects as part of interprofessional committees.
  • Performing additional duties as required to support the nursing team and patient care objectives.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree from an accredited School of Nursing and current registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of a post-graduate program in Operating Room Nursing or equivalent experience.
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in an operating room setting.
