About the Role:

The Healthcare Support Worker provides patient care services as an unregulated worker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Under the close supervision of the Patient Care Manager/Unit Manager or designate, the Healthcare Support Worker is responsible for assisting patients with their activities of daily living to facilitate comfort, safety, and general well-being; and assisting in maintaining a clean, safe environment for patients through the application of universal precautions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, and grooming
  • Provide personal care and support to patients, including assistance with mobility and transfers
  • Assist with maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment and surfaces
  • Assist with organizing and implementing activities and programs for patients
  • Observe and report on patient's mood, health, and wellbeing to healthcare professionals

Requirements:

  • Completion of Healthcare Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory
  • Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory
  • Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered
