POSITION SUMMARY

As a Senior Information Specialist for the Cancer Information Helpline, you will respond to inquiries from Canadians affected by cancer, including patients, their families, and healthcare professionals via phone, Live Chat, and email. Your role involves providing emotional support and compassionate understanding, addressing questions related to cancer, treatment options, and connecting clients with relevant resources within CCS or other organizations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver supportive care and cancer-related information to patients, families, and healthcare professionals across Canada through the CCS helpline.
  • Address inquiries regarding cancer diagnoses, treatments, side effects, coping strategies, and practical support services.
  • Assess and tailor information to meet each client's unique needs, ensuring effective communication during interactions.
  • Utilize expert communication skills to identify psychosocial needs and provide appropriate resources and referrals.
  • Offer understanding and compassion, employing active listening to create a supportive environment.
  • Serve as the primary contact for complex inquiries, articulating the CCS position on key issues clearly and professionally.
  • Engage in continuous learning to stay updated on oncology developments and enhance your knowledge base.
  • Navigate the CCS ecosystem to source information and proactively address client concerns.

DATA MANAGEMENT AND STRATEGY:

  • Collect and record client data accurately in the helpline CRM, employing sensitive interview techniques.
  • Participate in quality assurance processes to improve data capture and recording practices.

COLLABORATION AND TRAINING:

  • Work with the Cancer Information department to identify and fill information gaps.
  • Engage in ongoing training to enhance knowledge and skills related to cancer care.
  • Contribute to special projects that align with CCS's mission and support various initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in a public-facing role.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, social work, dietetics, or a related field.
  • Preferred registration in a Regulated Health Professional College.
  • Proficient in English; bilingualism in French is an asset.
  • Strong client service and communication skills, with a focus on compassionate care.
  • Attention to detail and data management capabilities.
