Job Description

Salary: $ $51.22 per hour (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)

Status: Temporary Part Time (approximately 10 months)

The Physiotherapist (PT) position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the University Health Network's Cancer Rehabilitation and Survivorship Program (CRS) at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (PM). This contract position will allow a PT to work within a specialized environment to provide service for cancer patients and families. The PT is a key member of the interdisciplinary health care team. Through the provision of patient (in individual and group format) and non-patient care activities, the PT enhances the quality of life of patients by:

  • Providing physical therapy assessment and treatment for patients; assessing for and prescribe mobility aids;
  • Collaborating with inter-professional team in providing patient focused care; communicating effectively with patients, families, and team members;
  • Supporting patients' health behaviour change;
  • Act as a resource to community clinicians regarding care for patients with late and persistent effects of cancer treatment and will build on established networks to explore further opportunities to integrate or better coordinate services, as appropriate;
  • Participating in program planning and development and professional and hospital initiatives supporting quality management and research;
  • Complying with and commitment to patient safety responsibilities and corresponding hospital plans, policies and procedures in order to ensure a safe environment for patients.

Ideally, the successful candidate will have experience working with a variety of patients, including cancer. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with other staff as well as other cancer rehabilitation partners. The successful candidate will participate in program meetings and in-services and will be supported by their professional colleagues. They will be responsible for providing service in accordance with UHN standards of care, recording workload measurement statistics, and performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.

Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physiotherapy (BScPT) or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience is required
  • Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
  • Membership with National and Provincial Professional Associations is preferred
  • Previous experience working with Oncology patients is preferred
  • Myofascial Release Therapy training and experience preferred
  • Experience assessing and treating lymphedema preferred
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (B Level or C Level) Heart Saver Plus Canada
  • Experience as member of interprofessional team required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) required
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Complies with the legislation outlined in the Regulated Health Professions Act, (1991)
  • Complies with the Code of Ethics and Rules of Conduct of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association
  • Demonstrates competence with departmental and hospital safety, emergency and infection control procedures
  • Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and to function in an independent, self-directed manner
  • Computer proficiency required
