ROLE OVERVIEW

As a Senior Information Specialist for the Cancer Information Helpline, you will engage with Canadians affected by cancer, providing vital information and emotional support through various communication channels including phone, Live Chat, and email. Your role will involve addressing inquiries related to cancer, treatment options, and connecting clients with appropriate resources within CCS or other organizations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Respond to inquiries from cancer patients, their families, and healthcare professionals regarding cancer-related topics.
  • Assess and research information tailored to each client's unique situation and needs, ensuring accurate communication.
  • Utilize effective communication skills to identify and address psychosocial needs, offering appropriate resources and referrals.
  • Provide compassionate support, actively listening to clients and addressing their emotional concerns.
  • Serve as the primary contact for complex cancer-related inquiries, articulating CCS's position on key issues.
  • Maintain professionalism in all communications, ensuring clarity and sensitivity.
  • Engage in continuous learning to stay updated on oncology developments and best practices.
  • Navigate CCS resources to address client concerns and proactively identify organizational risks.

DATA MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING:

  • Collect and record client data accurately in the helpline CRM, ensuring confidentiality and compliance.
  • Participate in quality assurance processes to enhance data capture techniques.

COLLABORATION AND TRAINING:

  • Work with the Cancer Information department to identify and address information gaps.
  • Engage in ongoing training to enhance knowledge and skills relevant to cancer care.
  • Contribute to special projects that support CCS's mission and enhance client services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in a healthcare or support role.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, social work, dietetics, or a related field.
  • Preferred registration in a Regulated Health Professional College.
  • Strong command of English; bilingualism in French is an asset.
  • Proficient in common computer software and data management.
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
