The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) is dedicated to enhancing the educational experience at the University of Manitoba. This unit collaborates with faculty and graduate students to provide guidance, expertise, and support in achieving the university's teaching and learning objectives. The Centre plays a vital role in promoting effective teaching practices through collaborative efforts, research, and the development of institutional policies that enhance the educational environment for both students and faculty.

A. POSITION OVERVIEW

  • The individual in this role will spearhead the Teaching Initiatives and Innovation Team, focusing on the integration of key teaching initiatives and the advancement of educational innovations across both campuses. This position will support the Centre in implementing new programs and enhancing existing ones to foster teaching and learning excellence. Additionally, the incumbent will represent the Centre on various institutional and provincial committees.

B. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Faculty Development, Mentoring, and Consultation (20%)

  • Engage with faculty members to discuss best practices in post-secondary teaching and learning.
  • Offer constructive feedback on teaching methodologies and course design.
  • Provide mentorship for faculty participating in teaching certificate programs.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with faculty to build a supportive network for teaching development.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide insights on teaching practices related to priority initiatives.

2. Leadership of the Teaching Initiatives and Innovation Team (50%)

  • Oversee and guide team members in developing and executing educational development experiences aligned with priority initiatives.
  • Support the operation and enhancement of various faculty development programs.
  • Supervise the planning and delivery of teaching workshops and related initiatives.
  • Participate in the design and lead the implementation of faculty development initiatives within the Centre and the broader university community.
  • Coordinate project activities, manage content, and ensure timely deliverables for educational projects.
  • Prepare operational plans for faculty development projects, including timelines and milestones.
  • Delegate consultations and workshops to team members as needed.
  • Manage human resources responsibilities for educational developers and specialists, including performance evaluations and leave tracking.
  • Collaborate with other Centre teams to achieve project goals.

3. Curriculum Design and Development (20%)

  • Create evidence-based resources for teaching and curriculum development in post-secondary education.
  • Contribute to the Centre's educational programming by drafting and updating instructional materials.
  • Research effective practices in higher education to inform resource development.
  • Consult with academic departments on curriculum design and accreditation processes.
  • Support faculties during curriculum development and review.
  • Supervise teams involved in curriculum renewal initiatives.

4. Professional Development (10%)

  • Stay informed about current trends in educational development and pedagogical practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education (B.Ed) and a Master's degree in Education (M.Ed) or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in program/course development in post-secondary education.
  • Experience in post-secondary teaching across various modalities.
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience supervising a team.
