The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) is a pivotal unit dedicated to faculty and educational development, collaborating closely with faculty members and graduate students to enhance the teaching and learning mission at the University of Manitoba. The Centre plays a crucial role in the practice and scholarship of teaching by offering guidance, engaging in collaborative problem-solving, and conducting research focused on teaching effectiveness, curriculum design, and institutional policies that enhance the educational experiences of both students and faculty.

A. POSITION OVERVIEW

  • This role will oversee the Teaching Initiatives and Innovation Team, focusing on the integration of key teaching initiatives and the advancement of educational innovations within the Centre's operations across both campuses. The incumbent will also represent the Centre in institutional or provincial committees.

B. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Faculty Development, Mentoring, and Consultation (20%)

  • Consult with faculty on effective teaching practices and learning strategies in higher education.
  • Provide constructive feedback on teaching methodologies and course design.
  • Offer mentorship to faculty participating in various teaching certification programs.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with faculty to foster a supportive network for teaching development and innovation.
  • Conduct classroom evaluations and provide insights on teaching practices aligned with priority initiatives.

2. Leadership of Teaching Initiatives and Innovation Team (50%)

  • Guide and supervise team members in the creation and execution of educational development experiences related to priority initiatives.
  • Support the operation and growth of various faculty development programs.
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of teaching workshops and related initiatives.
  • Participate in the design and lead the implementation of faculty development initiatives within the Centre and the broader university community.
  • Coordinate project teams on designated educational projects, ensuring timely delivery of content and outcomes.
  • Prepare detailed operational plans for faculty development projects, including timelines and milestones.
  • Manage consultations and custom workshops assigned to team members.
  • Facilitate the development and updating of teaching resources.
  • Provide HR support and guidance to educational developers, including performance evaluations and tracking of leave.
  • Collaborate with other Centre teams to complete faculty development projects.

3. Curriculum Design and Development (20%)

  • Create evidence-based resources for teaching and curriculum development within higher education.
  • Contribute to the Centre's educational programming by developing and updating relevant documents.
  • Research best practices in higher education to inform resource development.
  • Consult with academic departments on curriculum development and accreditation processes.
  • Develop support materials for faculties undergoing curriculum review.
  • Supervise teams involved in curriculum renewal initiatives.

4. Professional Development (10%)

  • Stay informed about emerging trends in educational development and pedagogical practices.

  • Experience in curriculum development and delivery at the post-secondary level.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education and a Master's degree in Education or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in program/course development in post-secondary education.
  • Experience in teaching across various modalities: in-person, blended, and online.
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience supervising a team.
