Position Overview

Reporting to the Administrative Manager, the Coordinator of Research Initiatives is responsible for the daily oversight of project operations, which includes budgeting, strategic planning, grant writing, and providing leadership to a team of Research Assistants. This role plays a crucial part in the development and execution of research and development projects in collaboration with the Chair, independent research teams, community partners, and industry professionals. The Coordinator works closely with the Chair to create research tools, prepare grant submissions, implement field studies, analyze data, and produce research reports, summary bulletins, and supplementary academic publications for various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Research Management

Supervise the advancement of research projects to achieve medium and long-term objectives by maintaining research and administrative protocols, coordinating data collection efforts, and proactively addressing challenges to ensure data integrity and completeness. Lead a team of research assistants, monitoring their progress in fulfilling assigned tasks by tracking hours and deliverables. Contribute to the conceptualization of research directions and outline proposed research activities. Identify research priorities and formulate short, medium, and long-term objectives and action plans. Anticipate and mobilize resources necessary to support the goals of the Hallman Research Chair, including identifying and pursuing external funding opportunities. Facilitate the preparation and submission of external research funding applications. Develop and implement protocols and best practices for all phases of a research project, including participant recruitment, data collection, analysis, report writing, and dissemination. Design, test, and implement data collection instruments such as interview guides and questionnaires. Prepare university ethics review applications, funder progress reports, and other essential documentation to support research activities. Consult with the Research Office regarding ethics review and external funding proposals.

Data Analysis & Reporting

Conduct comprehensive data analyses for multiple research projects. Create and maintain databases to monitor research activities, including participant recruitment, data collection, and analysis. Engage in the design, collection, analysis, and reporting of both qualitative and quantitative research data. Collect data through surveys, interviews, or document reviews. Analyze data utilizing software programs such as SPSS or NVIVO. Collaborate in the writing of research reports and other publications, including creative outputs like videos and presentations. Assist in drafting research proposals to secure external funding and complete internal ethical review submissions. Write research reports for both academic and non-academic audiences, ensuring accurate references, editing, and formatting. Synthesize research findings into dissemination products, including final reports and journal articles.

Financial Management

Responsible for long-term financial planning for project activities. Develop operating budgets for various projects. Manage finances across multiple research projects by reconciling projected budgets with actual expenditures. Track and report monthly on budget versus actual expenses to the Chair. Consult with Central & Research Finance, Procurement, and the Administrative Manager regarding overall budgetary matters.

Community Engagement & Partnerships

Foster productive relationships with research partners, including community organizations, research participants, professional associations, and academic/service providers. Communicate effectively in both written and oral formats, including research work plans, implementation activities, and final reports.

Reporting Structure

This Position Reports to: Administrative Manager with functional direction from the Hallman Research Chair.

Provides functional guidance to a team of 1-5 research assistants.

Qualifications

Master's degree (social sciences preferred). 2-3 years of experience managing university or community-based research projects, including goal-setting, work planning, resource allocation, and budgeting. Applied knowledge of research methodologies and ethics in the social sciences. Proven experience in writing targeted products such as funding applications and research reports. Strong analytical skills to develop innovative solutions to challenges. Organizational abilities to establish and maintain research protocols and processes. Capacity to manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines. Proficiency in word processing software, spreadsheets, video conferencing, and specialized data analysis software. Familiarity with various social media platforms. Knowledge of child welfare or children's mental health is considered an asset. Excellent writing skills.

Work Schedule

This is a part-time, continuing position with regular hours of 24 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Flexibility in hours may be required during peak periods.

Compensation

Job Level: E

Rate of Pay: $42.17 per hour with annual step progression.
