Role Overview

In this pivotal role, you will oversee the daily management of complex claims while offering valuable insights to the broader claims team. Your contributions will be essential in casualty claims, not only through handling significant loss claims but also by mentoring and sharing knowledge with key stakeholders and participating in special projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directly manage a portfolio of primarily commercial large loss and complex claims on a national scale, ensuring exceptional customer service.
  • Act as a representative for our clients and Aviva during mediations, arbitrations, trials, and other litigation processes.
  • Guide and mentor team members, fostering their technical and strategic skills.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify and manage loss costs and expenses, enhancing customer service, team dynamics, and financial outcomes.
  • Continuously seek improvement by challenging yourself and your team to enhance performance and reduce inefficiencies while ensuring adherence to claims policies and procedures.

  • Identify, measure, monitor, and manage key risks effectively.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to identify trends and forecast large loss developments, serving as a technical resource for senior management, underwriting, finance, and actuary.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education; CIP and FCIP designations are highly preferred.
  • Over 7 years of progressive experience in casualty claims across various lines.
  • A minimum of 3 years of proven experience in managing large and complex casualty claims, with extensive knowledge in coverage analysis, investigation, and quantum evaluation. Experience in class actions, US losses, sexual abuse claims, property damage liability, commercial motor vehicle accidents, severe losses, mediations, arbitrations, and trials is preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience is advantageous.
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance practices, operations, and processes.
  • Familiarity with claims centers, Qlik, and a keen interest in data analysis and trends.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to nurture and develop a diverse and experienced team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships at all levels.
  • Detail-oriented with a highly analytical approach.
  • Superior problem-solving capabilities with a strategic mindset.
  • Strong motivation and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
  • Licensing across Canada is preferred.
