Lead Tax Strategist

Essential Qualifications:

  • Canadian CPA certification
  • Completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax program
  • Over 5 years of Canadian taxation experience within a CPA firm in Canada
  • Proficiency in tax planning and compliance for corporations, partnerships, trusts, and individuals
  • Some familiarity with cross-border tax compliance
  • Current employment must be with a CPA firm
  • Availability to work full-time in the Vancouver office

Position Overview:

Source is in search of a driven, collaborative Lead Tax Strategist with robust experience in tax planning and compliance to enhance our expanding practice in downtown Vancouver.

The Role:

This is a remarkable opportunity for a proactive individual to join the Source team. As a member of our Canadian Tax Group, you will engage directly with clients and Partners to deliver tax planning and compliance services to a varied clientele. The ideal candidate will possess substantial public practice tax experience. This role is perfect for an ambitious professional eager to thrive in a dynamic environment with a growing firm. Initially, this position requires presence in our Vancouver office, with potential for a hybrid work schedule after the probationary period.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing and coordinating tax planning and compliance services for corporations, partnerships, trusts, and individuals
  • Supporting tax advisory and planning projects, including drafting written memoranda and guidance letters
  • Identifying opportunities for tax planning and additional specialized services
  • Adapting and prioritizing to meet client service requirements; providing clients with high-quality tax services and advice
  • Researching and addressing technical tax issues
  • Staying informed on new tax legislation and case law
  • Offering mentorship and technical support to junior staff

Qualifications for Success:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant tax planning and compliance experience
  • Completion of the In-Depth Tax Program
  • Strong analytical abilities, with a knack for identifying and researching tax issues, and the creativity to develop innovative solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with inbound and outbound cross-border tax compliance, including foreign reporting (T106, T1134, and T1135 forms), foreign accrual property income, and surplus pools
  • General understanding of the Canada-US Tax Treaty
  • Strong interpersonal skills coupled with a commitment to client service
  • Clear and professional communication abilities
  • Willingness to collaborate and assist audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge
  • A friendly and approachable demeanor
  • Self-driven team player capable of taking initiative

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be present in the Vancouver office. After the probationary period, a hybrid schedule may be available (2 days in the office and 3 days remote)
  • Willingness to work extra hours during peak periods (February - April and June)
  • Occasional local travel to meet clients or attend meetings; access to a vehicle is preferred
  • Adherence to a consistent work schedule to support practice groups
