Senior Accountant

Position Overview: Reporting to the Manager of Financial Accounting, this role is pivotal in managing indirect tax responsibilities, including GST/PST and withholding tax. The Corporate Accountant ensures compliance with all regulatory policies while fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Calculates monthly GST/PST tax obligations and prepares necessary remittance documentation.
- Handles computations for withholding taxes, including monthly for equipment and semi-monthly for Non-Resident entertainers.
- Conducts annual reconciliations and government submissions for withholding tax obligations.
- Assists in GST/PST audits as needed.
- Reconciles accounts receivable clearing accounts, including the preparation of invoices and processing of deposits.
- Manages vendor rebate reconciliations across all locations and facilitates inter-location transfers.
- Reconciles intercompany accounts and generates monthly/quarterly settlement reports.
- Oversees small claims provisions in collaboration with the Legal department, including accrual recording and payment processing.
- Maintains a schedule for prepaid expenses and prepares relevant amortization entries.
- Analyzes variances and generates quarterly comparison reports for accounts receivable and prepaid expenses.
- Prepares holdback reconciliations and manages transfers to and from the holdback bank account.
- Develops consolidated working papers for accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, holdbacks, security deposits, and foreign exchange.
- Prepares compliance reports for related parties and coordinates with the Legal department.
- Communicates effectively with relevant operational departments.
- Establishes strong working relationships with guests, team members, management, and auditors.
- Ensures compliance with licensing laws, health and safety regulations, and other statutory requirements.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or finance.
- Post-secondary education in accounting or finance, or a suitable combination of education and experience.
- Comprehensive understanding of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
- Proven ability to meet and exceed customer expectations through effective communication.
- Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with JDE or other accounting software is an asset.
