Douglas College is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Career Development Strategist to join our dedicated team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in empowering students to succeed in their career journeys by providing comprehensive guidance, resources, and connections.

As the Career Development Strategist, you will be responsible for:

  • Analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs) to track student program participation and success rates. You will leverage these insights to develop proactive strategies that enhance the value of our career training programs in preparing students for the competitive job market.
  • Implementing a direct match approach to employment support, actively connecting students with specific job opportunities as they arise. Your expertise in job development will be instrumental in facilitating successful matches between students and employers.
  • Performing other duties as required to contribute to the overall success of the Career Centre.
To Excel in This Role, You Will Need:

Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • A recognized degree from an accredited post-secondary institution in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in business development, engaging with medium to large employers within the business community. Your background should also include job development experience, ideally gained in a post-secondary career centre, WorkBC, or employment agency environment.
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized setting.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a career skills training environment, such as a post-secondary Career Centre or similar institution.
  • A proven track record of achieving job creation and business development goals.
  • In-depth knowledge of best practices in career education, demonstrated through active participation in organizations like CEWIL (Co-operative Education and Work Integrated Learning), CACEE (Canadian Association of Career Educators and Employers), or other relevant career education groups.
  • Extensive experience with job development strategies, particularly those focused on international and entry-level candidates from post-secondary institutions.
  • The ability to lead initiatives and manage projects involving senior colleagues, local government representatives, and members of the business community.
  • Experience in responding to diverse student needs, including those of international students, Indigenous students, students with disabilities, and LGBTQIA2S+ students.
  • A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • A strong understanding of the importance of Truth and Reconciliation, Decolonization, and Indigenization within the post-secondary context.
  • Expertise in career skills training programming.
  • Proven success in connecting new employers with students for studies-relevant work experience opportunities.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in business analytics to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Exceptional written, presentation, and oral communication skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to model appropriate professional, ethical, and collaborative behaviours aligned with the responsibilities of this position.
  • The capacity to manage multiple priorities, complex tasks, and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Demonstrated abilities that align with the Douglas College Core Competency Framework.
