This Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator role is pivotal in supporting local management with the ongoing administration of the Health & Safety Management System and Environmental Management System. Reporting to the Alstom EHS Project Manager, the EHS Coordinator will provide essential leadership and guidance to operational management for effective EHS program implementation and staff education on system functionalities. Key responsibilities include:

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain an updated digital and physical safety information board
  • Compile attendance lists and meeting minutes for various gatherings
  • Prepare materials and minutes for Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings
  • Assist with EHS training logistics, including scheduling and venue arrangements
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of events (e.g., safety stand-down meetings, EHS campaigns) and their contractual obligations
  • Review and document inspections, incidents, and meeting outcomes
  • Assist in generating monthly KPIs, reports, and statistics
  • Manage employee training records, including proof of training and expiry dates
  • Support desk and field audits
  • Assist in managing health and safety claims
  • Oversee the EHS general inbox and inquiries
  • Ensure electronic archiving of all EHS documentation
  • Provide administrative support to the EHS team as needed

Office Health and Safety Management

  • Conduct EHS inspections within the office (e.g., first aid kits, fire extinguishers, AEDs)
  • Develop and maintain office risk assessments
  • Engage in initiatives to enhance office ergonomics
  • Participate in the Project JHSC, mental health committee, and other Alstom programs
  • Support the implementation of EHS management systems
  • Create and distribute EHS communications, newsletters, etc.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of training programs
  • Occasional site visits for safety inspections and professional development
  • Provide EHS support to office personnel

PPE & Safety Supply Inventory Oversight

  • Assist teams with PPE and Safety Supply Inventory management: sourcing, ordering, receiving, storing, monitoring inventory, and providing PPE to employees
  • Ensure annual recertification of PPE and Safety Supply Inventory

Qualifications

  • Completion of a formal university or college education
  • 1-3 years of experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety
  • Experience in the construction sector is an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software systems
  • Knowledge of Canadian EHS legislation
  • Willingness to travel to construction sites as needed
  • Strong interpersonal skills: initiative, self-starter, teamwork, effective communication
  • Dependable and trustworthy
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks
