Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Molecular Technologist to join our team at the Government of Alberta. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and maintenance of rapid detection/identification laboratory testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advanced Molecular Diagnostic Testing: Conduct specialized molecular biology techniques, including PCR, sequencing, and bioinformatics, to support the development and maintenance of laboratory testing.
  • Molecular Assay Design and Validation: Design and validate molecular assays for the detection and identification of animal health-related pathogens.
  • Genetic Materials Analysis: Work under internationally recognized standards (ISO) to analyze genetic materials and optimize testing in support of surveillance and regulatory programs.
  • Reporting and Communication: Prepare reports and communicate findings to various stakeholders, including scientists and industry partners.
  • Research Leadership: Lead research projects, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory protocols.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics)
  • Proven experience in molecular biology techniques, including PCR, sequencing, and bioinformatics
  • Strong understanding of laboratory protocols and procedures
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and lead research projects
