About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Human Resources Generalist to join our team at McMillan. As an HR Generalist, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our Montreal office, including providing leadership and coaching to our team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the administration of facilities and office services departments, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to team members, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Liaise with the Building Property Management team to ensure timely and effective resolution of building notices, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Drive health and safety initiatives within the office, working closely with the health and safety team to ensure compliance.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of local office social events and charitable initiatives.
  • Liaise with the local and national IT team to resolve day-to-day IT issues.
  • Collaborate with the national HR team to support the administration of various HR functions, including recruitment, performance management, compensation, and employee relations.
  • Ensure compliance with Employment Standards of Quebec and Office québecois de la langue française (OQLF) requirements for French language in the workplace.
  • Play an active role in fostering a work environment that is inclusive, collaborative, and engaging, focusing on employee engagement and clear communication.
  • Support compliance requirements for pay equity and training obligations under the Commission des partenaires du marché du travail (CPMT).
  • Manage a team of legal administrative assistants, including shared group team coordination, resource management, and approving vacation, lieu, and overtime.
  • Conduct new hire orientations and office tours, as well as exit interviews for the Montreal office.
  • Support all local initiatives, projects, and programs, exemplifying our firm values of teamwork, professional excellence, commitment, respect, and client service.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Human Resources Generalist role, with a legal or professional services environment being an asset.
  • Bachelor's Degree and/or completion of a post-graduate Human Resources Program.
  • HRPA designation is considered an asset.
  • Previous supervisory and/or management experience is required.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, strategic leadership, coaching, facilitation, and relationship management skills.
  • Proven ability to partner with various stakeholders, listen, and build confidence, interacting with people at all levels of the organization with tact, diplomacy, and in a professional manner.
  • Develop, coach, and motivate people and foster a positive work environment.
  • Effective organizational, problem-solving, planning, and analytical skills, with demonstrated use of sound judgment and reliable decision-making.
  • Ability to perform well under time constraints to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to resolve problems effectively, exercising creative and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and enjoy working in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and generally able to embrace new technology/information systems.
