Job Overview

The Underwriting Supervisor for Personal Lines operates with minimal oversight, tasked with leading a dedicated underwriting team while managing daily operational activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and mentorship through constructive feedback, clearly communicating performance expectations and facilitating knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Identify and promote opportunities for professional growth, offering support and mentorship to team members.
  • Collaborate with Underwriting Excellence to ensure compliance with established policies, procedures, and underwriting standards.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and participate in the recruitment process for new team members.
  • Respond to inquiries and communicate decisions in a timely and professional manner.
  • Positively influence team dynamics and support the execution of business changes aligned with both short- and long-term objectives.
  • Consult with management regarding underwriting and staffing matters.
  • Engage actively in departmental strategic planning, including setting goals.
  • Participate in Large Loss Reviews, offering insights and recommendations on underwriting choices.
  • Cultivate strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including networking at industry events.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of experience in the Property and Casualty sector.
  • Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent business experience.
  • Completion of a recognized Property and Casualty Industry Designation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong leadership capabilities to effectively guide and influence team members.
  • Previous leadership experience is highly advantageous.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to thoroughly review information.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of identifying and implementing optimal solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present information persuasively.
  • Strong decision-making abilities, with a focus on providing sound justifications.
  • Ability to adapt to change and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and tracking progress to meet deadlines.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
