Job Overview:

Langara College is seeking a dedicated professional to take on the role of Supervisor, Counselling Operations. This position reports directly to the Department Chair and is responsible for managing the administrative functions of the Counselling Services Department. The Supervisor will lead a team of Assistants, ensuring efficient daily operations while contributing to the overall effectiveness of the Counselling team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the administrative operations of the Counselling Services Department.
  • Supervise Assistants in their daily responsibilities and provide support to the Counselling team.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of front-line procedures, policies, and protocols.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for students in collaboration with the Department Chair.
  • Maintain high work performance standards as established by the College.
Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Completion of a two-year Diploma or Associate Degree in a relevant field such as social work, psychology, counseling, or business administration.
  • A minimum of six years of recent relevant experience, including providing support services, office management, and supervisory roles.
  • Experience managing confidential student files and familiarity with clinical scheduling software is advantageous.
  • Experience in environments serving individuals with mental or physical distress is preferred.
  • Knowledge of mental health policies and training in mental health first aid is an asset.
Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Proven ability to supervise, plan, schedule, train, and evaluate team members.
  • Effective communication with diverse community members, particularly those in high-stress situations.
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills, with a strong respect for cultural differences.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to implement and oversee a counselling services triage process.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion in sensitive situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, including the ability to create and manage spreadsheets in Excel.
  • Ability to update website content and possess keyboarding skills of at least 45 wpm.
Work Schedule:

This position operates Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
