The Vice President of Business Development will report directly to the Regional Vice President and will be responsible for driving sales and cultivating new business opportunities within a designated territory. This role also involves managing and nurturing existing client relationships while providing guidance and mentorship to the Inside Sales Representative assigned to the area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a specific territory to boost sales and foster new business initiatives.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients while actively seeking new prospects.
  • Utilize extensive product knowledge and interpersonal skills to enhance sales and retain client assets.

Core Duties:

  • Conduct one-on-one and group meetings with financial advisors to showcase company offerings (targeting 20 meetings weekly);
  • Delegate daily responsibilities to the Inside Sales Representative and Sales Associate for effective follow-up;
  • Organize and host events, roadshows, and manager meetings;
  • Create and review a strategic business plan quarterly to optimize sales from advisors within the territory;
  • Segment the client base to establish service levels and ensure sales across various distribution channels;
  • Maintain and enhance client relationships through systematic territory rotations to increase sales and diversify product usage;
  • Make proactive calls to clients who exceed set purchase or redemption targets;
  • Manage expenses and uphold the overall budget for the region, including approving co-op requests and charitable donations;
  • Utilize the Diagnostic Selling Process to gather data and populate the CRM system with insights from meetings;
  • Respond to client inquiries and follow up on leads generated by the Inside Sales Representative;
  • Develop and cultivate new business relationships;
  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to the Inside Sales Representative;
  • Present new products, business strategies, and tax-planning ideas to advisors;
  • Collaborate extensively within a supportive team environment to achieve and exceed sales targets;
  • Participate in special projects as needed;
  • Adhere to Scotiabank Global Sales Principles and consider the Bank's risk appetite in daily activities.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in commerce, finance, or business administration;
  • A proven track record of advancing into roles with greater responsibility within the financial services sector;
  • At least 5 years of sales experience;
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience managing a sales territory;
  • Completion of CSC and/or IFIC certification;
  • A collaborative individual who thrives in a team setting;
  • Basic proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook);
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management systems;
  • Completion of an industry designation program (CIM, CFA, CFP, etc.) is preferred;
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time-management abilities;
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills;
  • Ability to stay informed on trends in the financial services industry;
  • Proactive self-starter with initiative in maximizing sales opportunities;
  • Willingness to travel frequently.

Successful candidates will be required to communicate effectively in both English and French to collaborate with various teams and serve a diverse clientele.
