The new Senior Vice President of Research and Development will be tasked with overseeing the technological aspects of this critical endeavor.
Position Objectives
The primary aim of the Senior Vice President of Research and Development is to foster an environment that attracts, deploys, and retains the necessary human and other resources to successfully develop, deliver, and support products that create value for the company’s customers, while aligning with the business strategy and objectives for sustainable growth.
Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the Senior Vice President will lead all initiatives related to the development and delivery of the company’s diverse product range, from definition and specification through design, release, enhancement, quality assurance, implementation, and support.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee direct reports, including goal setting, performance evaluation, and developmental feedback. Ensure similar initiatives are implemented across the entire engineering organization.
- Collaborate with the senior management team to deliver and support the product roadmap in alignment with the company’s strategic growth plans.
- Develop and document corporate strategies and systems for product development.
- Ensure the timely and cost-effective development of reliable, robust software using state-of-the-art methodologies that balance release content, quality, and timelines.
- Manage the overall engineering budget effectively.
- Evaluate existing and establish new scalable development platforms and processes that meet current organizational needs while anticipating future growth and complexity.
- Safeguard proprietary products and technology information, ensuring proper documentation and retention of product design information, while protecting the company’s investments through patents, copyrights, and other protective measures.
- Maintain a strong awareness of trends and conditions in technology, products, and development tools relevant to the needs of the company’s customers and business.
- Establish key performance indicators for competitive performance in development project completion and facilitate rapid, informed decision-making on strategies and plans.
- Stay informed about available public support for development activities and human resource development.
- Align the product development organization’s activities with the company’s goals and strategic direction, as well as its corporate values, including integrity, passion, and innovation.
- Build and nurture strong relationships and synergy with all areas of the company, key suppliers, and technical partners to achieve corporate goals while executing product and technology development plans.
- Create an environment that empowers highly skilled staff to excel, set and achieve personal and team goals, and gain recognition for their expertise within the context of the company’s software development initiatives.
- Establish and maintain succession plans for all positions within the engineering organization to ensure smooth transitions and minimize vacancies in critical roles.

- Experience managing engineering teams of 50+ across multiple product lines.
- Familiarity with productivity and quality-enhancing engineering methodologies, including Agile.
- Proven ability to scale engineering organizations while maintaining a positive, creative culture.
- Experience in both large complex and entrepreneurial environments.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills applicable within the engineering organization and across the executive team.
- Experience managing development organizations for both 'off the shelf' and custom product initiatives.
- Proven capability in managing revenues and costs effectively.
- Management experience within an enterprise software environment of similar size or larger.
