Job Overview

We are in search of a skilled Senior Project Cost Engineer / Specialist to enhance our team. This role is essential in ensuring that projects are executed efficiently while maintaining cost-effectiveness. The Project Cost Specialist plays a vital role in delivering value-added analysis, control measures, and reporting that facilitate effective management of project expenditures as part of the Bantrel organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to initial designs, studies, reports, and proposals.
  • Support the development and implementation of cost recording and reporting requirements. Execute performance monitoring and control functions in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain budgetary constraints and precise cost forecasts, utilizing a change management system while monitoring project progress. Conduct ongoing cost data and cash flow evaluations.
  • Assist in the establishment of project-specific codes of accounts and suggest necessary modifications. Keep track of field quantity unit rate reports and assess performance metrics.
  • Oversee the progress of field contractors.
  • Aid in the preparation of cost data for proposals and contract discussions.
  • Facilitate the conversion of project estimates into manageable cost control budgets tailored to project specifications.
  • Coordinate the project cost change management system (trending).
  • Execute quantity takeoffs for specific disciplines or specialties based on defined documents or assumptions.
  • Maintain the project job hour control system.
  • Assist with financial reporting in accordance with company and client standards.
  • Oversee or coordinate the project cost change management system (trending).
  • Prepare and compile information for specific cost studies. Analyze study outcomes and provide recommendations for project team discussions.
  • Identify data sources and techniques for data collection, gathering necessary information for specific disciplines or specialty applications.
  • Coordinate the execution of pricing structure development and its application to takeoffs, derived quantities, assumptions, and cost allowances within a discipline or specialty. Prepare and review estimates for indirect costs, including temporary facilities, construction services, tools, equipment, and other related expenses.
  • Collaborate with the estimating team to define scope requirements for a discipline or specialty, working alongside Engineering and other departments to gather necessary data for overall estimate preparation.
  • Conduct cost reconciliations during estimate preparation, performing data analysis, identifying issues, and making informed recommendations.

Required Qualifications

  • A degree in Engineering or Business, or a relevant qualification in Planning/Scheduling, Project Controls, or Project Management.
  • Several years of experience in a Project Controls-related role with increasing responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in performing quantity takeoffs, statistical analysis, and a solid understanding of technical processes, engineering drawings, and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and startup work processes. Knowledge level may vary based on area of cost control specialization.
  • Understanding of Project Codes of Accounts (COA).
  • Knowledge of cost and financial reporting systems and analysis, including forecasting, change management, and metrics.
  • Strong proficiency in project controls software such as EcoSys, Primavera P6, SAP, and Oracle (or Oracle JDE).
  • Experience in capital cost estimating and service estimating.
  • Familiarity with cash flow development and assessment.
  • Understanding of cost control interfaces with project planning and scheduling.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
