Position Overview

Durham College is on the lookout for a dedicated and skilled professional to join our academic community as a part-time professor in the Chemical Laboratory Technician program. This role involves teaching Sample Management (CHEM 2203), a course designed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to laboratory operations.

Course Description

The Sample Management course spans one semester and focuses on the intricacies of laboratory workflows. Students will explore the essential processes involved in the handling of laboratory samples, including their receipt, organization, prioritization, and information transmission. Emphasis will be placed on the journey of samples from collection through analysis to storage, highlighting the significance of process control within a quality management framework.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the part-time professor include, but are not limited to:

  • Fostering an inclusive learning environment that respects and accommodates diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
  • Engaging students through effective adult education principles.
  • Utilizing educational technologies to enhance learning experiences and manage course materials.
  • Developing and updating curriculum to ensure relevance and effectiveness in assessing student learning.
  • Collaborating with students, faculty, and various stakeholders to support academic success.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A relevant degree, with advanced qualifications being an asset.
  • A minimum of five years of recent, pertinent work experience.
  • Experience in laboratory settings, particularly in environmental, food, or pharmaceutical industries.
  • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level, with a solid understanding of Universal Design for Learning.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and effective collaboration.
