Durham College is in search of a qualified and enthusiastic individual who is dedicated to excellence in education and student achievement. The Faculty of Liberal Studies is looking for a part-time instructor to deliver Communication Courses in-person at our campuses. This position is part of an ongoing recruitment process for future teaching roles.
The primary responsibility of the selected candidate will be to facilitate Communication Foundations courses. These courses are designed to assist students in acquiring and honing the essential skills and competencies needed for effective communication across various contexts within their chosen disciplines. Course topics may encompass communication theories, interpersonal relationship models, group dynamics, public speaking, and intercultural communication.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PART-TIME FACULTY APPLICANTS:Recruitment for part-time positions is continuous and contingent upon course schedules and faculty requirements. Part-time faculty members typically teach up to 6 hours per week, with flexible schedules available from Monday to Thursday between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm, and Fridays from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Key Responsibilities of Part-time Professors at Durham College:- Fostering an inclusive learning environment that respects students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and learning preferences;
- Applying adult education principles to actively engage students in their learning journey;
- Utilizing educational technologies effectively to enhance learning, manage grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses;
- Designing curriculum that incorporates appropriate strategies and tools for assessing student learning;
- Ensuring that course content and program curriculum remain current and relevant;
- Demonstrating initiative and the ability to work independently;
- Collaborating effectively with students, program teams, and various internal and external stakeholders.
- A relevant Master's degree (a PhD in a related field is advantageous). Professional designations are a plus.
- A minimum of five years of recent and pertinent work experience.
- Experience teaching at the post-secondary level, with a solid understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and contemporary assessment methods. TESOL Certification and experience with English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners are beneficial.
- Participation in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
- A strong commitment to prioritizing the student experience.
- Proficiency in using current technologies to facilitate student learning and manage grades.
- A proven commitment to lifelong learning.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and community partners.
- Familiarity with the Ontario college system.
