Role: Manager of Laboratory Operations

Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the scientific and technical operations of the laboratory.
- Ensure the implementation of appropriate methodologies and equipment.
- Conduct reviews of quality control and proficiency tests, recommending corrective actions as necessary.
- Collaborate with the Medical Director and Quality Control Manager when applicable.
- Analyze incomplete work and interpret complex cases.
- Ensure that all abnormal and urgent reports are processed according to departmental guidelines.
- Develop, revise, and communicate departmental policies, procedures, and manuals.
- Provide guidance and support to staff regarding departmental policies and procedures.
- Ensure timely distribution and proper filing of updates for staff notification.
- Identify and prioritize annual budget requirements for the department.
- Maintain financial accountability for departmental budget formulation and oversight.
- Monitor inventory levels and manage routine stock orders.
- Supervise inventory activities and assist in resolving related issues.
- Manage recruitment, selection, and performance evaluation processes for departmental staff.
- Ensure comprehensive training and safety instruction for all assigned roles.
- Oversee operational functions, including scheduling and staff orientation.
- Design and implement training and development initiatives for departmental personnel.
- Accurately record and submit attendance and timesheets to payroll.
- Monitor compliance and prepare statistical reports as required.
- Delegate responsibilities to staff and maintain laboratory facilities and equipment.
Qualifications:
- Proven knowledge of managerial leadership systems and continuous improvement practices, preferably in a laboratory setting.
- Strong understanding of business and operational planning, including resource allocation and customer service best practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry or certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
- Experience in creating and enhancing Value Streams and Process Maps to improve service delivery.
- 7 to 10 years of managerial experience with demonstrated progression in responsibilities within a clinical environment.
Working Environment:
- Standard office and laboratory settings.
- Prolonged periods of sitting, with some standing and telephone use.
- Flexibility required for extended hours and shift work.
- Potential travel may be necessary.
