Role: Manager of Laboratory Operations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the scientific and technical operations of the laboratory.
  • Ensure the implementation of appropriate methodologies and equipment.
  • Conduct reviews of quality control and proficiency tests, recommending corrective actions as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director and Quality Control Manager on relevant matters.
  • Interpret complex cases and manage incomplete work effectively.
  • Ensure that all abnormal and urgent reports are processed according to departmental guidelines.
  • Develop, modify, and communicate policies, procedures, and manuals related to the department.
  • Provide guidance and support to employees regarding departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain proper documentation and ensure updates are communicated and filed appropriately.
  • Identify and prioritize the annual budget requirements for the department.
  • Maintain financial accountability for the departmental budget.
  • Monitor inventory levels and manage routine stock orders.
  • Supervise inventory activities and assist in resolving any issues.
  • Manage recruitment, selection, performance management, and training of departmental staff.
  • Ensure all employees receive appropriate training and safety instruction for their assigned roles.
  • Oversee the operational functions of the department, including scheduling and staff orientation.
  • Develop and implement training and development initiatives for all staff members.
  • Accurately record and submit attendance and timesheets to payroll.
  • Monitor compliance and prepare statistical reports related to departmental activities.
  • Delegate tasks to staff and ensure the maintenance of facilities and equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of managerial leadership systems and continuous improvement practices, preferably in a laboratory setting.
  • Understanding of business and operational planning, including resource allocation and customer service best practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry or certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
  • Experience in creating and enhancing Value Streams and Process Maps to improve service delivery.
  • 7 to 10 years of managerial experience in a clinical environment, demonstrating increased responsibility.

Working Environment:

  • Standard office and laboratory settings.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and some standing; requires dexterity for keyboard use.
  • Flexibility in working hours may be required.
  • Potential travel may be necessary.
