Role Summary

As a Registered Practical Nurse, you will play a vital role within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team dedicated to providing comprehensive services and programs to our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing care across various units within Homewood Specialized Services as needed.
  • Adapt to changing patient care requirements in accordance with CNO standards, RNAO Best Practice Guidelines, specific program philosophies, and diverse patient populations.
  • Manage patient assignments and adhere to established care plans.
  • Administer both psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatments.
  • Initiate necessary clinical assessments upon admission and at designated intervals, such as Mental Status Exams.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and engage with individual team members as necessary.
  • Serve as a preceptor, mentor, coach, or resource nurse as appropriate.
  • Participate in clinical discussions, team meetings, and patient/family conferences.
  • Accept varying work assignments across Homewood Specialized Services as directed by supervisors or delegates.
Qualifications

  • Current registration as an RPN with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing.
  • Up to 6 months of experience in general nursing practice preferred.
  • Experience with patients facing substance use disorders is an asset.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Familiarity with the Mental Health Act (MHA).
  • Understanding of documentation standards (CNO) and privacy legislation (PHIPPA).
  • Knowledge of CBT/DBT and CPT is beneficial.
  • Experience in group facilitation is advantageous.
  • Ability to effectively manage crisis situations and support acutely ill patients.
  • Current knowledge and experience in assessing and treating psychiatric disorders, including suicide prevention and managing aggressive behavior.
  • Previous training in boundaries, suicide awareness, and medication administration is beneficial.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience with various systems and software applications.
