The Project Accountant plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial aspects of various projects at Johnson Controls. This position involves close collaboration with the Operations Director to deliver comprehensive financial insights, manage cost models, and assess changes impacting pricing and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Communicate effectively with Project Managers regarding contractual documents, modifications, approvals, and billing-related services. Engage in the budget formulation for upcoming projects to ensure thorough and effective budget planning. Ensure the creation and upkeep of monthly cash flow forecasts for all ongoing projects. Establish and maintain a systematic process for report reviews and approvals, ensuring compliance with internal policies, regulations, and accounting standards. Generate advanced financial reports for project management, including burn rates and updated cash flow forecasts, while developing methods to track financial program metrics. Ensure timely execution of all financial tasks related to project closures. Prepare cost assessments for products and services to determine pricing and production forecasts. Calculate burden rates, establish expense budgets for production, and allocate costs across various projects, categorizing them into wages, materials, overhead, and service departments. Conduct comprehensive cost accounting for projects, including preparation, review, and analysis of inventory costing, standard costing, overhead allocation, and variance assessments. Analyze operational variances and sourcing opportunities, identifying areas for improvement. Develop and maintain cost analysis tools for efficiency and labor costs, alongside tracking systems. Provide real-time costing information during the manufacturing and commissioning phases of projects. Deliver Proforma Invoicing, trending data, and job projection forecasts. Support the development of ROI and contract strategies. Execute month-end processes for cost accounting. Conduct financial reconciliations at the conclusion of projects. Enhance systems and processes to ensure accurate cost accounting information. Collaborate with the Corporate Controller to align financial data and maintain consistency. Facilitate periodic financial planning cycles to support the Operations and Finance departments. Undertake additional duties as required.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required. A minimum of 3 years of experience in project accounting is essential. Experience in the manufacturing or construction sectors is preferred. Strong customer service orientation and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of staff and management. Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail are necessary, along with a high degree of initiative and flexibility to meet deadlines. Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively under pressure.

Working Conditions

Office-based environment. Manual dexterity is required for using desktop computers and peripherals. Occasional travel may be necessary.
