POSITION: Transitional Housing Support Specialist (Casual, On-Call)

FACILITY: Grace Mansion

JOB PURPOSE:

The Transitional Housing Support Specialist (Casual/On-Call) will collaborate with the Residents of Grace Mansion in various aspects of personal development, life skills enhancement, and engagement in social and spiritual activities, empowering each Resident to achieve their fullest potential.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Administrative Duties

NOTE: Specific administrative responsibilities may differ based on the assigned shifts.

  • Handle incoming calls and direct them to the appropriate personnel.
  • Welcome visitors to the facility following established protocols.
  • Ensure confidentiality while maintaining accurate records and statistical data.
  • Process applications for prospective residents and manage the waitlist.
  • Assist with the intake and discharge procedures for residents.
  • May collect residents' rent and securely store funds according to established guidelines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the program manager.

2. Community Support

  • Oversee and monitor the activities and interactions of Residents during assigned shifts.
  • Address all Resident inquiries in accordance with Centre Policies & Procedures.
  • Research and acquire knowledge on issues pertinent to residents, developing relevant resource information.
  • Maintain communication with The Salvation Army, municipal and provincial agencies, and community organizations to coordinate resources and activities for the benefit of the Centre and its residents.
  • Provide initial responses to emergencies, including fire alarms and other critical situations.
  • Support residents during times of physical, mental, or emotional crises.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a high school diploma.
  • Additional formal education in a related field is considered an asset.
  • Current certification in First Aid/CPR.
  • Training or certification in Addictions and/or Mental Health issues, or a willingness to undergo training.
  • Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or a willingness to be trained.
  • WHMIS certification.
  • Certification in FOODSAFE Level 1 or a willingness to be trained.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of 10 months of relevant experience in a residential setting.
  • Proficient computer skills, including training in Word, Outlook, and Excel.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The role requires the employee to work within Grace Mansion, a multi-story residential facility. Responsibilities will involve working from a designated area while also navigating through residential spaces. The employee may encounter challenging or uncomfortable conditions while performing their duties.

OTHER CONDITIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful completion of the Criminal Record Review Act clearance to work with vulnerable adults.
  • Successful clearance through The Salvation Army Child Abuse Registry.

SALARY: Pay Band 3

TERMS: Casual, On-Call

HOURS: 0 to 40 hours/week

DAYS & TIME: Availability for various shifts, including:

  • Days (8:00am-4:00pm)
  • Evenings (4:00pm-12:00am)
  • Overnights (12:00am-8:00am)
  • Weekends and Statutory Holidays
