Position Overview:
As the Manager of Laboratory Operations, you will oversee the effective and efficient management of the laboratory department, ensuring both administrative and technical excellence. Your key responsibilities will include maintaining high standards of service, optimizing resource utilization, managing budget implementation and controls, and fostering the ongoing development of staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the scientific and technical operations of the laboratory.
- Ensure the availability of appropriate methodologies and equipment.
- Conduct quality control reviews and proficiency tests, recommending corrective actions as necessary.
- Collaborate with the Medical Director and Quality Control Manager for applicable reviews.
- Assess incomplete work and interpret complex cases.
- Ensure that all abnormal and urgent reports are processed according to departmental guidelines.
- Develop, modify, and communicate departmental policies, procedures, and manuals.
- Provide guidance and support to employees regarding departmental policies and procedures.
- Ensure timely distribution and proper filing of updates for employee notification.
- Identify and prioritize annual budget requirements for the department.
- Maintain financial accountability for departmental budget formulation and oversight.
- Monitor inventory levels and manage routine stock orders.
- Oversee inventory activities and assist in resolving related issues.
- Lead recruitment, selection, placement, performance management, and training of departmental staff.
- Ensure all employees receive appropriate instruction and safety training for their assigned roles.
- Manage operational functions, including scheduling, training, and orientation of staff.
- Design and implement training and development initiatives for all department personnel.
- Record and submit attendance and timesheets to payroll, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
- Monitor compliance and prepare shift or unit reports and statistics.
- Delegate tasks to staff and ensure the maintenance of facilities and equipment.
Qualifications:
- 7 to 10 years of managerial experience in a relevant field.
- Strong knowledge of leadership systems and continuous improvement practices, preferably in a laboratory setting.
- Understanding of business and operational planning, including resource allocation and customer service best practices.
- Ability to create and enhance Value Streams and Process Maps to better serve both internal and external customers.
