Position Overview

We are in search of an Application Security Engineering Manager who is dedicated to fostering secure application development within our organization. This role requires a robust understanding of both cybersecurity and software development, along with experience in leading diverse engineering teams, including specialists in security and software engineering.

The Application Security team plays a vital role in our Security, Privacy, and Corporate Engineering framework. This team collaborates across the organization to safeguard our products and services through various initiatives:

  • Creating secure frameworks to mitigate vulnerabilities at scale (e.g., code libraries)
  • Identifying vulnerabilities through extensive production scanning across the entire technology stack
  • Integrating security measures into developer tools and throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Managing vulnerability assessments and remediation efforts
  • Overseeing bug bounty programs, including management, triage, engagement, and metrics

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the application security strategy for Robinhood
  • Influence the engineering culture to enhance security practices
  • Identify and eliminate recurring bug types within our codebase
  • Guide and nurture engineering talent
  • Establish and implement the overall application security program roadmap
  • Ensure security is prioritized throughout the software development lifecycle
  • Assess vendor solutions to determine the optimal build versus buy approach for the team
  • Conduct threat modeling for applications during the design phase

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years in leadership roles overseeing highly technical security teams
  • Proven experience in developing and executing comprehensive application security initiatives
  • Familiarity with application security practices across modern technology stacks and an understanding of industry standards and common frameworks
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with business stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Experience in agile technology environments or fast-paced settings is advantageous
