Position Overview

We are in search of an Application Security Engineering Manager who is enthusiastic about facilitating the development and deployment of secure applications. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in both information security and software engineering, along with experience in leading a diverse team of engineers, including those specializing in security and software development. This role is critical in managing extensive security initiatives across the organization to drive significant enhancements.

Team and Responsibilities

The Application Security team is an essential component of our Security, Privacy, and Corporate Engineering division. This team collaborates across the organization to ensure that our products, services, and processes are secure through various initiatives, including:

  • Creating secure frameworks to mitigate vulnerabilities at scale (e.g., code libraries)
  • Identifying vulnerabilities through comprehensive production scanning across the entire stack
  • Integrating security measures into developer tools and throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Managing vulnerability assessments and remediation efforts
  • Overseeing the bug bounty program, including management, triage, engagement, and metrics

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the application security strategy for Robinhood
  • Influence the engineering culture to enhance security maturity
  • Identify and eliminate systemic vulnerabilities within our codebase
  • Mentor and nurture engineering talent
  • Define and implement the overall application security program roadmap
  • Oversee security throughout the entire software development lifecycle
  • Evaluate vendor solutions and determine the optimal build versus buy strategy for the team
  • Conduct threat modeling for applications during the design phase

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years in leadership roles within highly technical security teams
  • Experience in developing and executing comprehensive application security initiatives
  • Proficient understanding of application security practices in contemporary technology stacks, along with knowledge of industry best practices and common application frameworks
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with business partners
  • Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration abilities
  • Experience in agile technology environments or fast-paced settings is advantageous
