Position Overview:

As a Lead Principal in the Private Equity division, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the investment strategies of the Investment Management Corporation of Ontario (IMCO). Your expertise will be instrumental in driving organizational change while fostering personal and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the management of IMCO's global Private Equity portfolio, ensuring alignment with our vision to be the preferred partner for Ontario's public sector funds.
  • Utilize your extensive knowledge to assess the viability of investment opportunities and manage an existing asset portfolio.
  • Lead the due diligence process, which includes conducting comprehensive industry and company analyses, developing advanced financial models, and negotiating legal agreements.
  • Prepare and present insightful recommendations for Investment Committee deliberations.
  • Maintain and cultivate relationships with stakeholders, monitoring investments effectively.
  • Play a significant role in the overall investment process, including the evaluation of new direct investments, co-investments, and fund commitments.
  • Drive strategic priority projects within the Private Equity sector and contribute to broader IMCO initiatives.
  • Stay informed about the evolving private equity market landscape to enhance investment recommendations.
  • Execute and monitor private equity investments, ensuring ongoing financial and operational performance of portfolio assets.
  • Build and leverage relationships with General Partners, management teams, and advisors to gather market intelligence and identify new investment opportunities.
Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • A university degree in Business or a related field, with a preference for CFA designation, MBA, LLB, or similar qualifications.
  • Over 12 years of experience in investment management, including a minimum of 6-8 years in direct Private Equity, with a strong track record in transaction management.
  • Significant experience in leading investment processes, conducting due diligence, arranging debt financing, and negotiating documentation.
  • Proven relationship management skills, particularly with portfolio companies and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, complemented by exceptional presentation abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in mentoring and developing junior team members.
  • A collaborative mindset, thriving in a high-performance culture.
