Position Overview:

The Client Support Aide plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of individuals at the Detox Center. Under the supervision of the Executive Director or Assistant Director, this position involves comprehensive client care and the smooth operation of daily activities within the facility.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Intake Duties:

  1. Accurately complete all Client Intake documentation in the presence of the client.
  2. Provide a thorough orientation covering the Center's rules, policies, and emergency protocols to new clients.
  3. Record vital signs, including blood pressure, and note any concerning behaviors or health indicators.
  4. Ensure all medications are securely stored and accurately documented.
  5. Conduct searches of personal belongings brought into the Center, addressing any contraband appropriately.
  6. Guide intoxicated clients to rest for the initial hours post-admission.

Ongoing Client Care Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor clients' blood pressure regularly during shifts.
  2. Distribute educational materials on addiction to support clients' understanding and recovery efforts.
  3. Provide empathetic and positive support to clients throughout their stay.
  4. Encourage clients to pursue long-term counseling and treatment options.
  5. Offer information on available resources and treatment programs.
  6. Assist clients with completing necessary application forms for treatment.
  7. Facilitate connections with medical professionals for pre-admittance evaluations.
  8. Administer prescribed medications as required.
  9. Identify withdrawal symptoms and refer clients in distress to medical facilities.
  10. Ensure respectful and dignified treatment of all clients at all times.
  11. Conduct regular checks on sleeping clients.
  12. Transport clients to meetings or appointments as needed.
  13. Enforce compliance with Center rules and regulations.

Discharge Responsibilities:

  1. Complete all necessary discharge documentation.
  2. Encourage feedback from clients regarding their experience.
  3. Ensure clients receive all personal belongings and medications upon discharge.

General Operational Duties:

  1. Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks for clients.
  2. Maintain accurate logs of activities, including client checks and visitor interactions.
  3. Assist in training and orienting new staff and volunteers.
  4. Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  5. Oversee the operational needs of the Center during shifts.
  6. Manage inventory and supply levels, notifying management of needs.
  7. Demonstrate knowledge of all policies and procedures outlined in the Center's manual.
  8. Safely operate the Center's vehicle for client transportation.

Communication Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  2. Document any unusual client behaviors and communicate them effectively.
  3. Maintain clear and organized client files.
  4. Answer inquiries and relay messages as necessary.

Safety and Training:

  1. Engage in ongoing training and maintain required certifications.
  2. Ensure the activation of safety protocols at the start of each shift.

Qualifications:

  1. Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  2. Certification as a Health Care Aide or LPN.
  3. Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  4. Possession of a Class 4 Driver's License or willingness to obtain.
  5. Understanding of addiction issues and detoxification processes.
  6. Strong conflict resolution and leadership skills.
  7. Excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written.
  8. Knowledge of medication administration and mental health first aid.

Compensation: As per the Collective Agreement.
