The estimated salary range for this position is between $60,000 and $70,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of this range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

Under general supervision, the Underwriter II – Group is tasked with evaluating the acceptability of moderately complex business with moderate premium volume in accordance with company guidelines. This role involves collaborating with our sales team and providing valuable expertise and service to both potential and existing policyholders.

Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct risk assessments utilizing group underwriting principles and tools, as well as external data sources, for quoting, negotiating, and authorizing risk acceptance.
  • Analyze group insurance requests for quotations and underwriting requirements to assess the level of risk involved, considering claim history, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest, and other relevant information for both Traditional and Specialty lines of business.
  • Determine eligibility for policy renewals based on company guidelines and retention objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records of decisions made and ensure the completeness of policy data.
  • Communicate decisions and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and foster positive relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Possess a solid understanding of rating procedures, policy wordings, underwriting policies, and regulations.
  • Assist with field inquiries regarding coverage details, changes, and renewal ratings promptly and professionally.
  • Efficiently manage work assignments, including assigned projects.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including networking at industry events.
  • Effectively communicate with distribution partners.
  • Work collaboratively towards achieving the department's Key Performance Indicator (KPI) goals.
  • Engage with reinsurance partners regarding special situations and additional risk acceptance when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education or relevant business experience.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in the Group/Specialty Insurance industry or at least two years of group underwriting experience.
  • Completion or active pursuit of a Group Benefits Associate (GBA) or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to review information thoroughly and accurately.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, mathematical, and communication skills, with the ability to provide justification for decisions.
  • Excellent time management skills, capable of handling changing priorities and fluctuating workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information persuasively.
