Key Responsibilities:
- Lead special projects and initiatives as required.
- Facilitate the creation and delivery of both technical and non-technical underwriting training for internal teams and external partners.
- Conduct training sessions in both group and individual formats, while also developing training resources.
- Utilize specialized knowledge of products and pricing to guide colleagues and distributors.
- Employ comprehensive understanding of policy wordings to mentor junior staff in risk assessment, coverage recommendations, and additional product sales.
- Provide onboarding and training for new hires and junior personnel to ensure adherence to compliance standards and reduce company risk.
- Possess a thorough understanding of policy terms, conditions, and exclusions to identify coverage gaps or potential losses.
- Recognize the political, legal, and social factors influencing underwriting practices and ensure compliance with established guidelines.
- Be knowledgeable about acceptance criteria for related business lines.
- Refer to other product line underwriters as necessary.
- Explain the factors impacting loss ratios, severity, and frequency.
- Analyze relevant data using appropriate software to assess the acceptability of risk levels.
Required Qualifications:
- 8-10 years of extensive underwriting experience.
- Post-secondary education; CIP designation is advantageous.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to make informed decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, adaptable to various audiences.
- Ability to influence decisions and negotiate effectively.
- A proactive learner who excels in both team settings and independent work.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven analytical and decision-making abilities, particularly in assessing and enhancing business profitability through risk evaluation.
