D U T I E S
The Research Chair position is a key role in Research Partnerships and Innovation to advance RRC
Polytech’s applied research enterprise in alignment with our Research Plan and the recently established
Price Institute of Advanced Manufacturing and Mechatronics. The Research Chair will be responsible for
building and implementing a program of research in Advanced Manufacturing and Mechatronics aligned
with RRC Polytech’s Strategic Plan and strategic Research Plan. The duties include forging research
partnerships and collaborations, attracting and securing funding and investment for research program
development, track and communicate metrics and impacts, hold financial accountability for research
program funding and ensure post-award administration requirements are met including but, not limited to
TAGFA, identify and nurture cross disciplinary collaborations with RRC Polytech Research Centers and
programs, oversee and administer the financial, administrative and human resource requirements of the
applied research area, lead knowledge mobilization and knowledge translation, disseminating research
results through academic and technical reports, conference presentations, invited talks, publications,
informing curricula, community and industry events and other internal and external venues, identify and
acquire tools, materials infrastructure and services required to conduct research activities, increase
student involvement and contribute to the development of Research Plan and strategic priorities as a
member of the RPI leadership team.
- R E Q U I R E D Q U A L I F I C A T I O N S- PhD in relevant field. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated research experience (scholarly and/or applied) in a field relevant to Advanced
- Manufacturing and Mechatronics- Experience in research program management
- Experience in post-award administration, and reporting to funders
- Experience in research project management
- Experience creating and managing project budgets and projections
- Experience in the leadership of staff
- Knowledge of funding programs and requirements (Tricouncil, federal, provincial, other)
- Knowledge of research methodologies in a relevant area of specialization
- Demonstrated ability to attract and sustain significant partnerships and funding
- Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with a diverse range of internal and
- external stakeholders- Demonstrated skill in developing and writing successful funding proposals
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous
improvement
- A S S E T S- Knowledge of research methodologies in Advanced Manufacturing and Mechatronics as well as
- required tools, technologies, and infrastructure to carry out the program of research- Business and funds development skills in applied research context
