**Company Description**

Waapihk Research is an Indigenous-led group of passionate experts who provide data-driven research to answer questions related to Indigenous health, education, and self-determination. We aim to play a supporting role by empowering Indigenous leaders with the information they require to shape policy and drive meaningful outcomes.

**Position Overview**
- Supporting the design and execution of mixed methods research approaches.
- Developing and implementing community engagement plans to facilitate in-person and online focus groups, interviews, and surveys.
- Undertaking specific research tasks including environmental scans, information gathering, and secondary research.
- Reviewing, monitoring, and identifying political and social trends and developments as they relate to Indigenous policy priorities and initiatives.
- Researching, analyzing, and interpreting municipal, provincial, federal, and other policies as they pertain to Indigenous health, education, social, and governance systems.
- Engaging with individuals, Nations, and other stakeholders across various sectors to understand impacts, best practices, and gaps in knowledge related to First Nations policy.
- Development of literature reviews, briefs, backgrounders, technical reports, research papers, and summaries.
- Other duties, as assigned.

**Essential Qualifications**
- Minimum of a Master's degree in political science, public administration, communications, development studies, or Indigenous studies.
- Knowledge of political, legislative, and regulatory processes impacting First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples in Canada.
- Deep knowledge and understanding of Indigenous history and Crown-Indigenous relations in Canada.
- Experience facilitating or supporting primary qualitative research (i.e., interviews, focus groups, surveys).
- Excellent written communication skills with experience preparing literature reviews, briefs, research reports, and qualitative data processing.
- Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational, critical thinking, and analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities within tight timeframes.
- Ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience working with highly sensitive material in a confidential and professional manner.
- Ability to travel and work in remote locations on occasion.
- Demonstrated capacity to undertake research in a diverse cultural environment, including in remote locations and Indigenous communities.
- Qualitative data analysis (QDA) experience (i.e., Atlas.ti, MAXQDA, NVivo, Delve).

**Desired Qualifications**
- Statistics training/education is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Canadian federal budgetary policy development and implementation.
- Deep understanding of Indigenous self-governance, rights, and health transformation reform.
- Experience working with Indigenous and northern communities on various issues.
- Ability to communicate in Indigenous language(s) and/or previous exposure to Indigenous communities and cultures is considered an asset.

**Position Details**
- Location: In-person at our Downtown Winnipeg office.
- Hours: Full-time.
- Compensation: Base salary commensurate with education and/or experience.
- Proposed Start Date: ASAP / Negotiable.
