**JOB SUMMARY**:
Reporting to the Director of Integrated Practice & Operations (CS, FP) this position supports the cultural care requirements identified in the VACFSS restorative policies in the Child Safety and Family Preservation and Reunification Programs. The Cultural Care Coordinator will identify in consultation with the Manager a schedule of cultural programming. Respond and coordinate specific milestone/rights of passage ceremonies in accordance with a child, youth, or family’s cultural care requirements.
The CCC is grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing and being and is acknowledged by their community/Nation as being a keeper of the sacred knowledge, holding the role to share this knowledge and assist others on their cultural learning journeys. The CCC must be able to demonstrate cultural agility and humility in working with various Nations and cultural groups.
**PURPOSE OF POSITION**:
The CCC will provide cultural care facilitation and support on site as identified in the care plans, Collaborative Practice meetings, ceremonies, and program specific cultural events. Must be comfortable providing orientation and training to staff when preparing/planning for a ceremony or cultural event with children, youth, and families.
This position will plan, facilitate, and coordinate the cultural care in the Child Safety and Family Preservation & Reunification Programs. The CCC will ensure the cultural supports and programs are meeting the diverse requirements of children, youth, and families served. They will also be responsible for identifying and establishing a network of Elders/Knowledge Keepers for the diverse cultural needs of the population served in programs. The CCC is responsible for:
- Recruiting and maintaining Elders/Knowledge Keepers that can support the cultural care requirements for children/youth and families.
- Supporting the cultural care requirements identified in the VACFSS restorative policies either directly or through a network of elders/knowledge keeper retained by VACFSS.
- Assisting with the design, development, and implementation of meaningful cultural programming for VACFSS families.
- Liaising with Elders/Knowledge Keepers.
- Providing training on the Indigenous core cultural competencies for VACFSS social worker practitioners and managers who are responsible for training the practitioners and supervisors.
- Coordinating of Collaborative Meetings and facilitating Meeting protocols.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education**
- Bachelor’s degree in Health or Social Sciences or related field.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered where incumbent has experience as a cultural coordinator with facilitation and cultural programming experience.
**Experience**:
- A minimum of 7 years of experience working within the helping field.
- Experience working with Elders and the Indigenous community.
- Recognized as a knowledge keeper in their community of practice.
- Experience in supervision and/or coordination and/delivery of training.
- Comfortable with public speaking and hosting meetings.
**Skills and Abilities**:
- Trained and holds cultural practices for convening safe and trauma informed meetings and collaborative practice.
- Understands and acknowledges the child welfare mandate held by VACFSS through its agreement with CFCSA director and protocols with First Nations and other delegated agencies.
- Demonstrates understanding, knowledge of Indigenous culture and history.
- Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the historical and ongoing effects of colonization on Indigenous People.
