Director of Finance Job Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Director of Finance to join our team at the Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and accounting. A proven track record of managing financial reports, audits, and compliance with regulatory requirements is essential.

This is a full-time position with a competitive salary range of $90,000-$110,000 per year, commensurate with experience. The benefits package includes dental care, extended health care, optional pension plan, life insurance, and vision care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Management & Reporting:
    • Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and accounting;
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements;
    • Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable accounting standards;
    • Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:
    • Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with department heads;
    • Prepare periodic financial forecasts and recommend adjustments;
    • Monitor and explain variances, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Compliance & Audit:
    • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, and nonprofit reporting requirements;
    • Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits;
    • Maintain and update financial policies and procedures.
  • Internal Controls & Risk Management:
    • Develop and implement strong internal controls;
    • Assess and manage financial risks, implementing mitigation strategies;
    • Prepare and submit statutory filings.
  • Financial Strategy & Leadership:
    • Work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Directors;
    • Develop long-term financial strategies supporting the organization's mission and sustainability;
    • Participate in strategic planning and implementation.
  • Team Management & Development:
    • Supervise and mentor a small finance team;
    • Provide guidance, professional development opportunities, and performance evaluations.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field;
    • Master's degree in finance or business administration preferred;
    • Must be a CPA with a minimum of 5 years' experience.
  • Experience:
    • At least 5 years of experience in a financial management position;
    • Proven experience in managing budgets, financial reports, and audits;
    • Experience in grant accounting and reporting for nonprofit organizations.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills;
    • Strong proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Desktop and Microsoft Excel);
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial data.
