**DUTIES**:
The Wewena Ngiiwemaa Program Worker, under the direction of the Executive Director, will provide service to Indigenous women in corrections’ custody at designated Ministry of Solicitor General and correctional institutions to ensure that Indigenous women are able to access services to support the goal of rehabilitation while in the institution and receive support to develop a community reintegration plan that would facilitate a safe reintegration once discharged back into the community.

**ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Counselling for First Nations, Métis, Inuit women and those who self-identify as Indigenous;
- Providing Indigenous women’s cultural programming where there are gaps in delivery of such programming, including: Indigenous core programs specific to Indigenous women (such as Understanding the Journey);
- Traditional ceremonies with a focus on women including, but not limited to, sweat lodges, healing circles, moon time ceremony, smudging, drumming and traditional teaching;
- Delivering or coordinating the delivery of specialized education on recognizing risk and safety for Indigenous women (for example, housing, children’s services, trafficking, education, employment, support services, relationships, and making healthy choices);
- Providing specialized support for survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking;
- Providing Indigenous women with community reintegration planning and support
- Must have or obtain, within 30 days of hiring date, a Vulnerable Sector CPIC.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- The incumbent shall possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of Indigenous people, their culture, history and traditions within the Hamilton and surrounding areas.
- Completion of a Social Services degree or diploma
- Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, CPR and Trauma Informed Care
- Experience working in a shelter service, with domestic violence and the Indigenous community
- Critical response training, understanding inter-generational trauma and Indigenous history
- Demonstrated skills in community education network training, outreach and systemic advocacy
- Proficient in case management, co-ordination and crisis intervention
- Demonstrated competency and sensitivity to culture, sexual orientation, age and relating to others
- Thorough understanding of women’s issues facing Indigenous family violence and survivors of past traumas
- Possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Child & Family Services Act
- A thorough knowledge of all Indigenous and non-Indigenous programs and services for emergency shelters
- Must have or obtain, within 30 days of hiring date, a Vulnerable Sector CPIC.
- Must have a valid Ontario driver’s licence and own reliable transportation

**SALARY**: $24.00/hr
**JOB TYPE**:Part-time position, 15 hours per week
