The Indigenous Street Outreach Worker, under the direction of the Executive will be responsible to provide temporary services to people who are experiencing homelessness and typically disconnected from the system. Assertive Housing Focused Street Outreach is an important part of emergency response in the homeless-serving system to support connection to housing through coordinated access with an Indigenous lens.

The Indigenous Street Outreach Worker will connect homeless individuals and households who are sleeping rough or in places not fit for human habitation to obtain shelter, services, and housing. Street Outreach staff will assist participants by providing advocacy and connections to appropriate services for the purpose of obtaining housing. Street Outreach staff will also support with encampment responses.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Post Secondary Diploma in Social Services, Psychiatric/Mental Health Services, Indigenous Studies or a combination of relevant education and experience;
- 3-years experience working within an Indigenous organization is an asset;
- Experience working with individuals living in homelessness;
- Experience using professional case management practices;
- Knowledge of Indigenous and non-Indigenous community supports and services;
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on the impacts of trauma;
- Be able to work independently and as a member of a team;
- Sufficient skills in the use of Microsoft Office and 365;
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and perspective, respect for participants' independence, individualized client focused care, and flexibility;
- High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment;
- Valid driver’s license with clear driving record and have access to reliable transportation is required;
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention training and experience;
- First Aid/CPR certification or be willing to be certified; and,
- Clean criminal record check (CPIC) with Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) if applicable.

The HRIC is a highly flexible organization offering additional compensation including 5 paid cultural days, 4 paid holidays beyond mandatory Employment Standards, paid shutdown over the winter holiday week, and health benefits. HRIC health benefits are offered to full time permanent employees, employees will be able to enroll upon the successful completion of their (3) three-month probationary period.
