CNA is the national and global professional voice of Canadian nursing. **Role**:
The Governance & Events Coordinator is responsible for coordinating governance activities and delivering events of varying size and complexity for CNA. They ensure proper functioning of the board of directors, board standing committees and the annual meeting. Working with internal and external collaborators, the Governance & Events Coordinator is responsible for organizing and controlling CNA events. They coordinate activities while ensuring high quality projects delivered on time and within budget.

While CNA is a virtual workplace, this position is based in Ottawa. The incumbent must live in the Ottawa area.

**Key responsibilities**:

- Participates and assists in planning meetings, including the development of agendas and recording of meetings
- Utilizes project management methodologies, ensuring event planning, documentation, communication and deliverables are on time and within budgets
- Organizes program content for awards, webinars, workshops, conferences and conventions
- Liaises with the chairs, the board of directors and other committees and guests
- Manages logistics for all meetings of the board, its committees, the annual meeting of members, the Fellowship induction ceremony and other program events
- Works with the marketing & publishing team to develop marketing plans and produce event material
- Prepares and distributes minutes and follows up on action items in a timely fashion
- Reviews and approves directors’ and participants’ expense claims
- Leads the call for nominations for the board, the CNA awards and Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Nursing
- Works with the ITS team for registration systems
- Manages the 'call for abstracts' process
- Coordinates tradeshow preparation and production as well as solicitation of exhibitors and sponsors
- Responsible for event follow-up, evaluation
- Develops work plans and critical path of activities for each event
- Anticipates barriers, develops and implements contingency plans as well as troubleshoots and solves problems
- Files all annual corporate documents and by-law changes with Corporations Canada
- Drafts annual operating budgets for board activities, annual meeting and each event
- Manages the board governance manual
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Requires travel

- Good judgment and political sensitivity
- Knowledge of by-laws and rules of order
- A high degree of resourcefulness, self-motivation and direction as well as the judgement necessary to understand when to seek direction
- Ability to evaluate the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to recommend the most appropriate course

**Desirable** **qualifications**:

- Experience working with a not-for-profit or a professional association
- Certified Meetings Professional (CMP), or Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP)
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
