**Intergovernmental Relations Coordinator**

**Location**: Provincial Head Office in Edmonton, AB

**Position Status**: Full Time (40 hrs per week)

**The Organization**

**The Opportunity**

Reporting to the Director of Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) and working in support of a passionate and dedicated team of professionals in the executive office of the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA), you will support the MNA’s ongoing efforts in building relations with other orders of government, securing support for key projects and initiatives, and supporting MNA governance activities.

This role will require you to perform work that is both complex and sensitive. You will meet a variety of challenges to help ensure MNA’s vision is both communicated and understood across a diverse range of stakeholders; serve as a liaison between the MNA and other orders of government; support the internal governance of the Métis Nation; review legislation; and recommend actions to further the MNA’s interests, coordinate relationship building activities, and support key initiatives.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Supports Intergovernmental Relations activities, including assisting in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, and priorities of the Métis Nation of Alberta.
- Serves as a liaison; develops and enhances positive, effective relationships with other orders of government, agencies, and elected officials.
- Coordinates, develops, and assists with strategies on legislative and regional issues in collaboration with Métis leadership, citizens, and external stakeholders.
- Maintains awareness of legislative activities affecting Métis people and the potential impact associated; tracks Provincial, Federal and municipal legislation; anticipates legislative issues and identifies opportunities to influence policy and decisions to best meet the needs of the Métis Nation.
- Helps develop policy positions on government affairs and legislative issues, as well as other issues as required.
- Research legislative and government affairs issues and helps prepare information for senior officials and leadership; interprets government reports/legislation and summarizes data for leaders and staff.
- Responds to intergovernmental correspondence in a professional, insightful and clear manner.
- Other duties as required.

- Exemplary communication skills, writing capability, and a proven ability to produce quality work.
- Ability to work with a team or independently.
- Ability to coordinate and facilitate information gathering sessions within an Indigenous community setting.
- Able to interact professionally and diplomatically with people at all levels of an organization and with multiple external stakeholders.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent writing and research skills.
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Office suite programs.

**Qualifications**
- A Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Social Science, Public Administration, or other related field. Previous experience in similar roles is an asset.
- Understanding of Métis history, culture, and community. An understanding of the history of Métis/government relations is an asset.
- Knowledge and/or experience working in government/on government policies is an asset.

**Other Requirements**
- Ability and willingness to travel within Alberta. Additional, less frequent, out-of-province travel may also occur, with advanced notice.
- Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license and an operational vehicle.
