Calling all seasoned professionals with a passion for forests, intergovernmental relations, and policy collaboration We are seeking to fill an Intergovernmental Forestry Advisor position to spearhead our strategic initiatives. **About Us**:
Strategic Forest Initiatives and Policy Section is within Forestry Division, we focus on:

- Fostering an effective policy system, including policy development, for the Division;
- Conducting strategic analysis of issues relevant to the Division or related to the management of forests, the forest sector, or wildfire; and
- Stewarding the Division’s relationship with other Alberta ministries, the Federal Government, other provinces, and territories.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Director of Strategic Forest Initiatives and Policy, the Intergovernmental Forestry Advisor demonstrates initiative and creativity in managing complex projects spanning various forestry disciplines and beyond. The primary duties include providing leadership, coordination, education, monitoring, and forestry-related expertise to ensure meaningful representation of the Forestry Division within the Government of Alberta's Integrated Resource Management System partner projects, and representation of Alberta at intergovernmental forums. Moreover, the role entails leading Alberta's coordination efforts, offering liaison services, developing strategic advice, and conducting analysis in support of the Canadian Council of Forest Ministers (CCFM) and similar intergovernmental initiatives intersecting with Forestry Division responsibilities.

This role involves crafting high-quality and timely briefing or policy documents to support government directives. The Intergovernmental Forestry Advisor is expected to provide accurate information and thorough analysis to facilitate effective decision-making, while also adhering to approval processes. This position offers strategic policy guidance on matters relevant to the Forestry Division, particularly those with interdepartmental, intergovernmental, or international dimensions.
- Conducting strategic analysis on various intergovernmental resource management issues or policies impacting Alberta, public forests, wildfire management, or the forest sector.
- Fostering positive relationships with key groups within the Government of Alberta, across governments and jurisdictions, with Indigenous peoples, and with stakeholders.
- Developing briefing materials to assist executive and ministerial engagement in intergovernmental or international meetings.
- Effectively communicating about complex topics including delivery of presentations, development of briefing materials, and maintenance of key relationships.
- Effectively managing business deliverables in dynamic timelines, showcasing adaptability, prioritization skills, and efficient team coordination.
- Supervising business planning, report preparation, and assessing compliance with legislation, regulations, and policies for the division and Government of Alberta.

**About Your Work Environment**

In this role, you will primarily be working in an office setting. You will have regular, on-going contact with Alberta Forestry and Parks’ staff and executive, other ministries, other Canadian jurisdictions, and external stakeholder groups.
