**Position Overview**

This position reports to the Principal Investigator.

The position is in support of laboratory aspects of clinical studies of the treatment of Clostridioides difficile infection as a dominant clinical model of microbiome depletion, and secondarily to explore the role of the microbiome in suppressing growth and spread of antibiotic resistant micro-organisms in the human host.

**Position Description**

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):

- As an integrated team member, be responsible for various task performances in an applied clinical research laboratory, and initial work in molecular biological test protocol, performance of molecular testing under supervision, maintenance of protocols, compilation of and uploading of data output onto electronic platforms
- Involved in day-to-day operation of the lab as directed, and with collaborative input
- Assist with plans and designs or needs of operations, research, and services
- Assist where necessary on budgets, developing reports, tracking expenses, and reconciliation of accounts as needed
- Under limited supervision and direction, develop and implement original experiments within the guidelines of the research
- Conduct literature review, surveys, data analysis and interpretation, laboratory experiments and other research for use in scholarly publications
- Participate in the reliable and safe operation of all laboratory equipment, including stocking of all necessary materials and supplies
- Keep laboratory and work area clean and safe
- Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community
- Manages own time effectively and ensures immediate reports to manager is kept informed of activities, and progress of work
- Demonstrated strong communication, team skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
- Extensive understanding, continued learning and development of safety codes, standards, and systems related to specialization

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- Bachelor's or Master's Degree microbiology in related field of bacterial pathogenesis, clinical microbiology, molecular microbiology, medical bioinformatics
- MLT background is an asset
- Minimum 3 years of technical experience and completion of post-secondary education in related discipline
- 2 to 3 years of related technical experience within the research specialty field
- 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience is an asset
- Ability to provide technical support for other team members through advice on technical lab issues
- Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments.
- Understanding of safety codes and standards
- Operate and maintain complex technical equipment
- Experience with various biological samples (eg. blood, tissues, urine, etc)
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, organization, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet skills
- Knowledge of University core business systems is desirable
- WHIMS Certification
