**Description**

This position reports to the Principal Investigator.

Functioning within the framework of the Division of Rheumatology in the Department of Medicine, the Research Coordinator reports to the Principal Investigator. This position requires a part-time 1-2 days a week. Workdays may vary in length to meet research deadlines during peak periods.

This position is located at Foothills Campus, however, may require some travel to Richmond Road Diagnostic and Treatment Center (RRDTC), where Division of Rheumatology clinics are held.

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):

- Research Management
- Leads initiation of sponsor led clinical trials, including gaining regulatory and operational approvals according to institutional and sponsor requirements (e.g. ethics/legal submissions, department approvals, cost agreements and sponsor regulatory documents)
- Coordinates activities with multiple teams to meet study deliverables including participant visits, clinical evaluations, biospecimen collection and accurate documentation
- Facilitates study monitoring visits (remote and/or onsite) and ensures timely resolution of action items as required by sponsors or regulatory agencies
- Develops and negotiates research budgets and accurately reconciles expenses
- Identifies areas of improvement, implements processes to improve research workflow and evaluates outcomes
- Communication and Relationships
- Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with staff, students, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community
- Collaborates with multi-site project staff and stakeholders to implement and disseminate project-applicable communications, presentations, publications, and research findings

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- Qualifications/Expertise Required:

- Master of Science/Health Sciences with clinical research background, or Bachelor of Science/Health Sciences with significant health research experience
- Minimum of one year of experience in clinical trial coordination within an academic setting
- Clinical Trial Coordinator training - the following courses are strongly preferred: Alberta SPOR Pragmatic Clinical Trials Certificate Program; Health Canada Division 5, GCP-CITI Program Membership in SOCRA or CCRP Experience with clinical trial vendor programs â€'œ Covance, Greenphire, Clinical Ink, Q2, Atlas
- Expertise in research coordination in the discipline of Rheumatology an asset
- Experience creating and managing clinical cohorts and biospecimen banks
- Excellent understanding of databases and electronic medical record programs
- Experience in engaging multiple parties in research across different settings (e.g. site research team, institute partners, sponsor representatives, and patients/participants)
- Qualifications/Expertise Assets:

- Research experience with University of Calgary; Cumming School of Medicine (CSM); CSM Legal and Finance; Calgary Centre for Clinical Research (CCCR); Oncore Clinical Trial Management System (CTSM): Conjoint Health Research and Ethics (CHREB/IRISS)
- Work or research experience with Alberta Health Services, (AHS), particularly Resource and Facility Requests and Connect Care/Epic
- Knowledge and demonstrated training of ethical human research standards, including Tri-Council (TCPS2.0), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and Health Canada Division
- Experience and demonstrated training with Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems including medidata RAVE and REDCap
