**About**

Reception House is a non-profit, community-based organization that delivers quality settlement, integration and support services to government-assisted refugees (GARs) in Waterloo Region. Since 1987, Reception House has assisted thousands of refugees rebuild their lives in Canada through specialized programs and services designed to help them become established in their new communities.

We currently have an entry-level opportunity for a 6-month contract Human Resources Assistant on our Human Resources team. The Human Resources Assistant will work closely with the HR team and employees to ensure human resources services are provided as efficiently as possible. This position will assist with daily HR functions including volunteer recruitment, employee onboarding and offboarding, assist with answering employee questions, and employee engagement.

**What you’ll do**:

- Assisting with the recruitment process including creating job postings, screening resumes, and conducting reference checks.
- Helping to maintain and create employee records by keeping accurate, up to date electronic employee files in the HRIS (BambooHR) including employment agreements and recruitment documents.
- Assisting the HR Manager in reviewing and updating HR policies, procedures, job descriptions and other related HR initiatives.
- Helping with the employee onboarding process to ensure new hires successfully transition into their role within the organization.
- Assisting with the daily administration of the health benefits and RRSP program, including assisting employees with enrollment and maintaining accurate records.
- Participate in the planning and execution of employee engagement and appreciation events through the social committee.
- Help create and promote an inclusive, equitable and diverse organizational culture.
- Assist with the implementation and administration of the employee performance management program.
- Assisting with health and safety compliance and best practices.
- Other reasonable duties as assigned.

**What you’ll need**:

- Completed or working toward post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources or related discipline is preferred.
- Prior working experience within a human resources capacity is an asset.
- Experience with electronic personnel files through a cloud based HRIS is preferred.
- Some knowledge of HR best practices and legislation related to employment, accessibility, human rights, and health and safety.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and utilizing SharePoint as a filing system.
- Able to maintain confidentiality and communicate unwanted or negative information in a positive way.
- Excellent time management and task prioritization skills.
- Demonstrate excellent problem-solving, sound judgment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company.
- Ability to promote a culture of diversity, equity and inclusivity.
- Strong active listening, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization and presentation skills.

**Working conditions**:

- Extended periods of time spent sitting, working on computer using mouse and keyboard.
- Travel to other RH locations required at times for events or meetings.

**Pay Range**:

- $23 - $24/hour
