**Human Resources Generalist**

Independent Living Waterloo Region is looking to hire an entry level Human Resources (HR) Generalist that will be primarily responsible for recruitment and selection and other administrative tasks. **Position Summary**:
Human Resources (HR) Generalist is primarily responsible for recruitment and selection and other administrative tasks. Reporting to the Senior Manager Human Resources, the HR Generalist plays an integral role by understanding the needs of a wide range of HR-related tasks including, but not limited to: recruitment and selection, employee lifecycle management, employee relations, training, development, WSIB claims management, compensation, and benefits.

**Key Responsibilities**:
Recruitment and Selection
- Responsible for full recruitment and selection of employees, ensuring an organized and welcoming onboarding (complete new hire paperwork, reference checks, collect required documents, complete police checks as needed).
- Prepare employment contracts, employment verification letters, and/or student hours verification letters as requested
- Send communication to new hires regarding orientation and create/upkeep of personnel files
- Coordinate with appropriate parties to ensure onboarding to new hire training operates smoothly

Training and Development
- Assign e-learning to new hires using ILWR’s Learning Management System i.e. HR Downloads
- Support annual re-training of all employees
- Maintain employee training records to ensure valid certification or enrolment in appropriate training/ re-certification (i.e. CPR-First Aid, Food Safety, Consumer Handling)
- Assist in updating policies, procedures, guidelines and activities as required to ensure they remain relevant and current

Group Benefits
- Enroll new hires in ILWR’s Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) during onboarding
- Support with ongoing benefit and pension enrollments; communicate directly with benefit representatives
- Ensure key individuals and programs (i.e., EFAP) are informed if offer of employment is declined or rescinded
- Be familiar with group benefit requirements to appropriately field employee questions

**Administration**
- Investigate and respond to general inquiries of employees and Supervisors
- Advise and communicate employee lifecycle events including leaves of absences and stay/exit interviews; complete relevant documentation
- Ensure the upkeep of turnover and new hire tracking
- Support with employee review cycles and follow up on completion
- Attendance to training and development as required
- Any other duties as may be described

**Occupational Health and Safety**
- Good knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation
- Good knowledge of Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) and employer obligations
- Good knowledge of the return/ stay at work process and modified duties
- Recommended to be on the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and to complete monthly inspections. Alternatively, attend some quarterly meetings to support JHSC and offer input

**Requirements**:

- Completion of a relevant undergraduate degree or diploma from a recognized college or university requiring three (3) years of study
- Good knowledge of current legislation, human resources practices, procedures and policies
- Previous experience in a Human Resources Generalist role is an asset
- Strong integrity with the ability to maintain confidentiality and manage highly sensitive information
- Highly motivated self-starter and ability to work with minimum supervision, while maintaining excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work with and manage relationships with employees and internal stakeholders
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) is required.
- Certification in CPR and first aid OR a willingness to become certified
- Police back check within the last three (3) months OR a willingness to obtain one

**Job Details**:
Status: Full-Time, Permanent
Hours: 40 hours/Week. Standard office hours, with some flexibility required.
Location: Kitchener, Ontario

**Salary**:$49,924
