**Position Description**:
The Simulation Educator acts as a leadership role to advance paediatric practice through the provision of education which influences clinical, professional and leadership development. Education in an iterative process whereby the educator is engaged in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation that influences the development of staff and students along the continuum of novice to expert practice. The vision for the role is operationalized through program development, continuous quality improvement, consultation, networking, the education process, scholarship and strategic initiatives. Strategic directions drive the initiatives that the Simulation Educators undertake.
**Here's What You'll Get To Do**
- Staff Development_
The Simulation and Resuscitation Educator is responsible for the facilitation of knowledge and skill development. This involves the provision or facilitation of education for interprofessional staff across the organization. The Simulation Resuscitation Educator actively contributes to the advancement of Interprofessional Education through involvement in the development of programming that crosses professions to facilitate positive health outcomes for children and a healthy work environment for interprofessional staff. The Simulation and Resuscitation Educator will be responsible for developing programming (i.e. faculty development for Simulation Instructors, custom courses based on needs) and at times collaborate with unit educators to develop curriculum relevant to their specific units. The Educator will also ensure faculty development for the Resuscitation Education Instructors. Uses broad knowledge base of the health care environment, clinical expertise, educational theories and models, program/curriculum development/evaluation, organizational development, technical expertise, process consultation and research utilization to promote a positive learning culture. This role will also support activities of both the Simulation and Resuscitation Education, which will involve instructing courses such as BLS, PALS, PEARS and other offerings under the program.
- Education Management and Collaborative Leadership_
The Simulation and Resuscitation Educator leads and manages education and learning for interprofessional staff as well as contributes to the direction of simulation education as aligned with the SickKids, Learning Institute and SimKids Strategic Directions. Contributes to decision making related to education needs of staff in collaboration with the SimKids Director and Simulation Steering Committee. Responsible for ensuring quality education within a learning environment that maximizes productivity, quality care, values creativity, and strives for cost-effectiveness of learning activities. Utilizes systematic tracking mechanisms to evaluate level of progress and accomplishments. In summary, integrates a collaborative and transformational leadership style, conveys a vision that incorporates current and future needs, and empowers others to achieve the overall SickKids mission and vision.
- Program Planning and Development_
The Simulation and Resuscitation Educator possesses a strong understanding of clinical practice and partners with Simulation Instructors, Simulation Associate Instructors and Interprofessional clinical educators (ex. Interprofessional Education Specialists, Physician Educators, RT Educators) to inform program planning processes for the clinical area. Additionally, the Educator drives program planning and execution of simulation-enhance education (ex. Scenario Development, Facilitation, Debriefing). The Simulation and Resuscitation Educator uses a depth and breadth of education knowledge that is grounded in a multi-theoretical approach, research and experience that enables the identification of learning needs, planning and implementation of education programs, and program evaluation.
