The Sunnybrook Canadian Simulation Centre (SCSC) was the first of its kind in Canada when it opened in 1995. Every year, more than 3,000 healthcare professionals, including allied health, nursing, researchers and physicians and surgeons benefit from simulation based programs to enhance patient safety and care.

The SCSC continues to be a leader in simulation with a focus on team performance and patient safety. In 2022, the Centre was awarded Leading Practice by the Health Standards Organization (HSO) and Accreditation Canada for its work in supporting Ontario teams in using team-based models of care and helping to mitigate health human resource challenges experienced at Sunnybrook and throughout the health care system.

About the job
The Simulation Specialist is an integral member of the Sunnybrook Canadian Simulation Centre (SCSC) high performing team, supporting our vision of Inventing the future of healthcare through simulation. The Simulation Specialist will be responsible for equipment maintenance, including hardware and software, simulation set up, scenario delivery, and various operational aspects of the SCSC.

**What you will get to do**
Operations
- Maintain Simulation Centre as a clean, safe, and operational facility, ensuring adherence to SCSC policies and guidelines
- Responsible for simulation A/V and technical support and expertise
- Set up and clean up rooms/spaces for training sessions and meetings
- Troubleshoot simulation equipment
- Scheduling simulation activities and resources

Equipment Maintenance
- Conduct routine equipment maintenance of the Centre (value >$1M)
- Responsible for ensuring all equipment is in working order and supply stock is maintained, including ordering and purchasing coordination, working with vendors and biomedical engineering
- Maintains records of equipment repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting guides

Data Collection and Analysis
- Responsible for soliciting/recording/analyzing instructor and student feedback following simulation experiences
- Responsible for creating/maintaining accurate records and data/metrics of simulation exercises

Education & Research
- Innovate simulation equipment/environment to compliment simulation curriculum
- Operate simulation equipment to deliver scenarios
- Independently delivers technical aspects of simulation scenarios/curriculum
- Educates on appropriate use of simulation equipment
- Leads and/or assists with research, educational and quality improvement studies

Quality Improvement
- Facilitate collaboration among health science programs to optimize technology use
- Collaborates with program staff to identify potential program needs and opportunities for growth.
- Identifies, summarizes, and collates opportunities for improvement, innovation, workflow, efficiencies and development of initiatives for the operations of the Simulation Program
- Identifies, summarizes, and collates data collected from quality improvement simulations

Leadership
- Support Corporate and SCSC Strategic Directions
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, procedures and practices for the Centre.
- Research, purchase, and implementation of new technologies, simulators, and task trainers
- Guide new equipment selection and evaluation
- Lead equipment onboarding and orientation

Professional Development
- Responsible for maintaining up to date knowledge regarding simulation equipment and technology
- Ensures currency in professional skills and seeks opportunities to enhance expertise through appropriate educational/developmental activities and professional affiliations
- Remains current with national and international advances in simulation, and emerging technologies

What Qualifications/Skills you will need
- Undergraduate degree or diploma, preferably in a technical, educational or healthcare related field
- Healthcare simulation experience preferred
- Experience operating and troubleshooting A/V equipment and virtual platforms, including Zoom
- Experience in technical project management
- Experience in programming, editing programs including iMovie preferred
- Strong skills in computer programs including, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, spreadsheets, databases and virtual platforms including Zoom.
- Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and clinical experience highly desirable
- Education or experience in health care related information technology strongly preferred
- Instructional/facilitation skills an asset
- Ability to function independently and collaboratively within a team
- Strong leadership abilities, effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
